Pan on Sesame Street

A morning 'bout half past nine
De TV nearly blow meh mind
Ah catch cold feet
Lookin' at Sesame Street
Ah saw a full steelband on display
So ah tell mehself right away
Trinidad in pain
Steelband no belong to we again

I was amaze
Ah couldn't help but gaze
Big Bird, Buffy and Grover
Ernie, Bert and Oscar
Well look ah laugh 'til ah nearly bus'
When I saw Mr. Snuffleupagus
Jumpin' up like any one of us
An' shakin' dey feet
To pan on Sesame Street

Believe I cyar understan'
Why we still neglectin' steelband
We lack foresight
A wrong that we must put right
We would not promote, we would not expose
Foreigners takin' it from below we nose
What a burnin' shame
Sooner or later we'll have no claim

I was amaze
I couldn't help but gaze
Shimlock, Marlice, and Marcia
Clarabelle, Cookie Monster
Ah nearly jump out meh shoe
When ah saw Katie and de kangaroo
Jumpin' up like if is me or you
An' shakin' dey feet
To pan on Sesame Street

It's time that we make a change
'Cause we sense of values are strange
Stop dis curse
An' t'ink 'bout yuh culture first
Again I t'ink dat we should be told
Pan is de eighth wonder of de world
An' let de world know
It start in Trinidad and Tobago.

I was amaze
I couldn't help but gaze
Suzanne, Sheldon and Linda
Kody, Hairy and Olivia
Ah really felt like a louse
When I saw Mr. Hooper and City Mouse
Jumpin' up in de living room of meh house
An' shakin' dey feet
To pan on Sesame Street

So I make my appeal again
Start a big national campaign
Once annually
Promote a big steelband jamboree
Set aside the first and second of May
And call it Steelband Holiday
The whole idea
Is to get people more aware

I was amaze
I couldn't help but gaze
Big Bird, Buffy and Grover
Ernie, Bert and Oscar
Ah really fell like a log
When ah see Bob and Gordon drinkin' dey grog
Along with Barclay and Kermit de Frog
An' shakin' dey feet
To pan on Sesame Street
